2010 AND IT’S CARNIVAL TIME AGAIN!

A message from our Chairman

Old photos show us that there has been a pageant/parade in Malmesbury since the 1930’s, which had evolved into its present Carnival format by the mid 1950’s when our current records start. The Carnival Committee has been working long and hard all year to ensure that this tradition continues and have once again created a rich and varied programme of events lasting throughout August and culminating in the Carnival Procession on September 4th.

Despite last year’s difficulties, the community and businesses of Malmesbury have continued to show their support for Carnival and I would like to thank everyone for their help and encouragement. Also a special thank-you must go to the volunteers of the committee without whose enthusiasm and commitment Carnival would not happen.

With traditional old favourites such as the Butterfly Queen, Bingo or the Quiz, through Voce’s classical recital, talks on our Town’s history or Illyria Theatre’s outdoor production of Pride and Prejudice, a sing-a-long to Mamma Mia!, ‘crazy’ Urban Golf to belly dancers, there really is something for all ages and tastes.

So come on Malmesbury enjoy your Carnival whilst helping to raise money for local deserving causes.

Kids - enrol for the Craft Workshop and make something for the procession,

Parent - practise your Salsa moves,

Everyone - enter Malmesbury’s got Talent and give us your best song, dance or conjuring trick.

As always, we welcome and need new members to join the committee or to volunteer to help at events. It is fresh ideas and new enthusiasms that keeps the tradition of Carnival going from year to year.
